National Civil Service DayEvery year the National Civil Service Day is celebrated on 21 April. The main motive for this day is to re-devote and recommit themselves to the cause of the people. It is observed by all Civil Services.

The career bureaucrats which are Civil Services mention who are the permanent executive branches of the Republic of India. The backbone of the administrative machinery of the country is the civil service system.

Who is the National Civil Servant?

Civil servants are the staff of the government of India or of the states; however, not all servants of the government are civil servants. As of 2010, there have been 6.4 million government employees in India. However, less than 5,000 civil servants to administer them.

Civil Services Day

Every year on April 21 the Government of India celebrates the day as ‘Civil Services day’ as a particular event for the civil servants.

This date has been decided for commemorating first Home Minister of Independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. At Metcalf House he had addressed the probationers of Administrative Services Officers in 1947 in Delhi, he mentioned to civil servants as the ‘steel frame of India’. In Vigyan  Bhawan, New Delhi the first such function was held on 21 April 2006.

The Awards from Prime Minister for the Excellence in the sector of Public Administration are presented in three categories to Districts/Implementing Units for implementation of Priority program and innovation categories are usually given on this Civil Servant Day.

Having the vision for acknowledging, recognizing and giving rewards the extraordinary and innovative work done by officers of the Central and State Governments towards the welfare of common people these awards are instituted.

What Does The Award Consists of?

This award consists of a medal, scroll and amount of Rs.1 lakh in cash. In case of the award goes to the group, the total award money varies to Rs.5 lack which is subject to a maximum of Rs.1 lakh each person. Also, the cash amount is limited to Rs.5 lakh for an organization.

On this day in this awards scheme, the huge number of public servants takes part in these awards on the Civil Services day each year. To bring civil servants jointly for connecting with each other and learn good practices from being implemented all over the nation in the field of public grievance. This annual event is enthusiastically awaited by all public administrators for celebrating the outcomes of work done in the entire year.
