Limits To Fandom.

I wanna be famous!’ this was the sentence I always used to say when I was asked what I wanted to be in life.

No, not a doctor, not an Engineer, I wanted to be a Famous girl, that’s it.

When asked how, I didn’t actually have an answer. Though I secretly wanted to be an actor or a model, I was too scared to confess it.

Yes, there is a reason behind it!!!

In a society, where I was born and brought up, people always had bad thoughts about the lives of actors. My family, relatives, and friends loved watching movies and serials and secretly admired the casts but when any rumor or reality about their personal life showed up they immediately used to start judging them. Till my mid-teens, I was confused as to why people behaved like this.

My aunt, after spending a week-long vacation in Mumbai, came to my house the other day and showed us a picture of her with a famous celebrity.

Just a week ago before she had left to Mumbai, she had given us a visit. My mother and my aunt were catching up with each other’s lives and eventually, the topic of the same celebrity had come up. ‘I heard she takes drugs! I wonder how can she being a woman sacrifice herself just to earn some amount of ransom.’

Yes, I am talking about the same aunt who took a picture with that celebrity and had started boasting about her beauty and charming behavior and how graciously she greeted her fans! My aunt was now one of her fans and apparently she had forgotten about the things she had said about that celebrity, a few days ago.”

Now, this is not just about my aunt. She is just one of those people who judge people on the basis of whatever she hears or sees. You can always pinpoint people like her around you.

There is always this one person around us who acts like they know everything about the lifestyle of celebrities and talk about them like they had just come home after spending a long time with them.

They make us believe what they say, may it be something positive or negative about their lives. Such people are one of the reasons I had nearly quit my dream to become an actor.

Yes, I know that I shouldn’t be caring about what people say and all; I have read those inspirational quotes too. But this is not what I am trying to say.

This article is not about me. It is about them. It is about those human lives who earn their income through performing arts.

Engineering, medical, law, these all are careers and so is Acting. Every person contributes in some or the other way to the society.

Actors do it by entertaining us. Doctors do it by treating us. Teachers do it by teaching us. When we don’t turn on the television set or peek into an engineer’s house to see what they are up to in their personal life, why are we then so anxious about the lives of actors?

They are human beings too and after their professional work, every actor wishes to be given some space for their personal lives.

Media doesn’t let go even the slightest move they make. This is because we love to hear what they do. Media is just trying to provide us the contents that we like.
Actors and other celebrities as I said before are to entertain us. We have always been taking their lives for granted. Yes to some extent actors influence our lives but misusing the same point is also bad.

For instance, if a celebrity scolds her child for misbehaving, we create a havoc out of it. When a normal person does that, anyone hardly notices.

We all have our lives to be taken care of. I am sure they are handling theirs really well. We all need to focus on our own lives and try not to make it so hard for famous personalities to live their lives peacefully. After all, they are one of us.
